Hyundai Creta 2023 Review – Better Than Before

The new Hyundai Creta gets a refreshed exterior and interior design with some new features. It was unveiled in Indonesia and while the India model will be slightly different, it gives us a good idea of what to expect. In this article, we will take a detailed look at what the new Creta offers along with a driving experience review.

Exterior Design

Front Grille

The front grille is all-new and follows Hyundai’s latest design language. It gets a prominent cascade grille finished in black and nicely integrates with the headlamps. This gives the Creta an aggressive yet premium front fascia.

The headlamps are also redesigned. They get split LED units with the main headlamp sitting lower down. The Daytime Running Lamps are positioned on top separately. This new headlamp design makes the front look very distinctive.

Side Profile

From the sides, the new Creta looks similar to the current model sold in India barring some minor changes. The window sills get a black finish and there’s also a panoramic sunroof on offer. The 17-inch alloy wheels fill up the arches well.

Rear Design

At the rear, Hyundai has retained a similar design as the current model. The tail lamps, bumper, and other elements are mostly unchanged. The only noticeable difference is the tweaked lower bumper.

Interior Design

Rear Seats

Space at the rear is plentiful and the seats get adjustable headrests. There’s decent legroom and headroom even for tall passengers. You also get rear AC vents, charging sockets, and cup holders in the foldable center armrest.

Front Cabin

The dashboard layout is identical to the India-spec Creta except for the smaller 8-inch infotainment display. You get a digital instrument cluster, ventilated front seats, wireless charging, multiple driving modes, an air purifier, and more. The quality levels are impressive.

Steering Wheel

The steering wheel design is different from the Indian model and misses out on a few controls. However, you still get audio and phone controls along with buttons for ADAS features. The steering feels nice to hold with adequate leather wrapping.

Instrument Cluster

A fully digital instrument cluster is on offer that lets you switch between various themes and display information. This will come in handy with the ADAS features that the new Creta will get.

Infotainment System

The touchscreen infotainment system is smooth to operate but is smaller at 8 inches compared to the 10.25-inch unit in Indian Creta. However, the layout and overall functionality remain almost similar. You also get Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Other Features

Other features include push-button start/stop, electronic parking brake, wireless phone charging, air purifier, cooled glovebox, electric sunroof, multiple driving modes, and more.

Engine and Performance

Internationally, the Hyundai Creta gets a 1.5-litre petrol engine mated to an IVT automatic gearbox. Power output stands at 115PS while torque output is rated at 144Nm. Performance is adequate for regular use but lacks excitement. The gearbox has the typical rubber-band effect of CVTs.

Driving Experience

Steering Feedback

The steering wheel is light to operate and makes driving around town very convenient. Feedback levels are satisfactory and weight build-up at highway speeds is minimal. Overall, it doesn’t feel disconnected or vague.

Ride comfort is impressive thanks to the well-tuned suspension. It nicely irons out bumps and potholes. Bad roads are handled competently and the Creta remains stable over undulations. Body roll is also controlled.

Forward and side visibility is excellent thanks to the tall stance and large glass area. The mirrors are large and have a good field of vision. Rear visibility is decent but a 360-degree parking camera would have been useful.

Expected Changes in the Indian Model

The India-spec Hyundai Creta facelift will get major updates to comply with upcoming safety norms. Expect features like:

  • New front grille and exterior design
  • Advanced Driver Assistance Systems
  • 360-degree parking camera
  • ADAS features like blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert
  • Level 2 autonomous capabilities
  • 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system
  • Improved rear seat comfort and features

The new Hyundai Creta gets noticeable design updates along with new interior features and technology. It improves upon the popular SUV while retaining its core strengths of space, comfort, features, and value. The India model will take things further with more safety tech and powerful engine options. Overall, the new Creta looks all set to be an even stronger contender in the competitive midsize SUV space.

In this comprehensive review, we delve into the Citroen C3 Aircross, evaluating its design, interior space, engine performance, driving dynamics, off-road capabilities, and more.

Citroen C3 Aircross Exterior Design and Styling

The Citroen C3 Aircross boasts a captivating and distinctive exterior, setting it apart within the segment.

Distinctive Front Profile

At the front, the split headlamp design, featuring LED daytime running lamps integrated into the bumper, exudes confidence. The chrome-graced grille and skid plates contribute to its SUV appeal. While it shares some similarities with its sub-4m sibling, the C3, the C3 Aircross maintains its distinct identity.

Muscular Side Profile

On the side, flared wheel arches, side cladding, and 17-inch alloy wheels establish the C3 Aircross’s robust stance. The rising window line meets the roof rails, and the off-center floating roof design adds character and uniqueness.

Rear Design

The rear showcases split tail lamps connected by a black band, accompanied by a chrome nameplate on the tailgate, contributing to its sophisticated appearance. Overall, the exterior design of the C3 Aircross sets it apart from conventional SUV designs.

Exterior Dimensions

Boasting dimensions of 4.5 meters in length, 1.8 meters in width, and 1.6 meters in height, the C3 Aircross commands attention. It is the widest and tallest among its rivals, with a substantial 2.7-meter wheelbase that enhances interior space.

Interiors, Comfort, and Features

Stepping inside, the Citroen C3 Aircross greets you with its characteristic quirky interior styling. However, how does its form align with its function?

Cabin Layout and Quality

The dashboard’s forward positioning imparts an open ambiance. While the unconventional shapes and lines draw the eye, there’s room for improvement in terms of material quality, as some hard plastics are evident on touchpoints.

Seats and Comfort

Front seats offer a well-contoured design, ensuring comfort during long drives. In the seven-seater variant, the rear seats feature reclining backrests. However, the absence of rear AC vents and charging ports is notable.

Infotainment and Connectivity

A 10.2-inch touchscreen serves as the command center for infotainment functions. Seamlessly supporting wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, the infotainment system ensures hassle-free connectivity. The speaker system delivers respectable sound quality.

Storage Spaces

The cabin provides sufficient storage space, including a sizable glovebox, door pockets, and a center console. However, the lack of grip in the phone storage cavity is a minor drawback.

Missing Features

Despite its strengths, the C3 Aircross falls short in certain areas. The absence of auto climate control, auto-dimming IRVM, and front parking sensors is unexpected. Additionally, the omission of features like an air purifier and sunroof leaves room for improvement.

Engine Options and Performance

Citroen equips the C3 Aircross with a single engine option in India – a 1.2L turbo-petrol motor.

Citroen C3 Aircross Specifications
Engine Capacity1198cc
Fuel TypePetrol
Transmission Type6-speed Manual (6-speed MT)
Mileage/RangeNot Available (NA)

Turbo-Petrol Engine

The 110hp 1.2L three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine stands out for its smoothness and responsiveness. Tuned to deliver robust mid-range power, the engine facilitates effortless drivability.

Power Delivery

While turbo lag is noticeable at lower RPMs, the engine gains momentum as the revs rise. Overtaking maneuvers are executed with ease, and reaching triple-digit speeds is a breeze. The engine maintains its refinement even at higher RPMs.

Manual Transmission

The C3 Aircross’s driving engagement is enhanced by its light clutch and smooth six-speed manual gearbox. Precise gear shifts contribute to an engaging driving experience. Notably, the absence of an automatic variant limits options, although Citroen plans to introduce one in the future.

Driving Dynamics

Behind the wheel, the C3 Aircross impresses with its well-balanced dynamics.

Steering Feedback

The steering strikes a balance between adequate weighting at high speeds and light maneuverability at parking speeds. While steering feedback could be improved, it fulfills its role effectively.

Handling and Dynamics

Navigating corners reveals the C3 Aircross’s adept handling, featuring a controlled body roll. The chassis is finely tuned to tackle India’s varied road conditions.

Ride Quality

Ride quality emerges as a highlight, with the suspension adeptly absorbing road imperfections and potholes. Although a hint of floatiness is experienced at high speeds, the low-speed ride is notably impressive.

Off-Roading Ability

The C3 Aircross boasts soft suspension, 200mm ground clearance, and Traction Control modes, equipping it with credible light off-roading capabilities. It confidently handles gravel, broken roads, and off-road trails. While it lacks hardcore 4×4 capabilities, its versatility shines through.

Flexible Seating Options

The C3 Aircross distinguishes itself with its availability in both five-seater and seven-seater cabin layouts.

5-Seater Layout

Opting for the standard five-seater version ensures ample room for four adults, accompanied by luggage space. This layout prioritizes passenger comfort without compromise.

7-Seater Layout

In the seven-seater variant, two additional seats are introduced in the third row. The middle row features 40:60 split backrests that recline, enhancing flexibility and comfort.

Third Row Space

While the third-row space is best suited for children or short journeys, it provides easy access and features aircon vents for added comfort. One-touch folding seats simplify entry.

Folding 2nd and 3rd Rows

Folding down the third and second-row seats transforms the C3 Aircross into a capacious cargo carrier. This practicality bolsters the C3 Aircross’s appeal for families and diverse needs.

Pricing and Positioning

As a newcomer, the C3 Aircross’s pricing strategy is pivotal in establishing its standing among competitors.

Expected Pricing

Anticipated to commence from Rs. 12 lakhs onwards, the Citroen C3 Aircross is set to rival the five-seater Creta and Seltos variants. The presence of extra seats might incur a slight premium.

Value for Money

While competitively priced, certain essentials like auto wipers and cruise control are conspicuous by their absence. Rivals offer a more extensive array of features at a similar price point.

Positioning vs. Rivals

The C3 Aircross’s unique seven-seat flexibility is its forte. However, precise pricing will dictate its success against formidable contenders like the Creta and Seltos.

The Citroen C3 Aircross shines through with its adaptable seating configurations, spirited engine, and comfortable ride. Its SUV aesthetics and Citroen’s distinctive design ethos add flair to the package. Nevertheless, the lack of vital features and strategic pricing are considerations. As a family-oriented SUV, addressing these shortcomings is essential. Overall, the Citroen C3 Aircross exhibits the potential to carve a niche in the competitive mid-size SUV market, contingent upon Citroen’s strategic decisions.

Volvo XC40

2023 Volvo XC40 B4 Review – A Refined Premium Crossover

The 2023 Volvo XC40 B4 is the latest iteration of Volvo’s popular entry-level luxury crossover. This updated model brings subtle exterior tweaks, cabin improvements, and most notably, a new mild hybrid powertrain. Read on as we explore what’s new and how it fares as a premium offering.

Exterior Updates

On the outside, changes to the XC40 B4 are rather minor compared to the previous model. Gone is the R-Design’s dual-tone paint, flashy alloys, and excessive black trim. Instead, Volvo has opted for a more subtle look with the standard grille, reshaped LED headlamps, and reprofiled bumpers.

18-inch wheels add proportionality but appear somewhat plain. Out back, updates are even fewer – gloss black skid plates and B4 badging signify the mild hybrid model. Overall, a handsome but not flashy exterior.

New Mild Hybrid Powertrain

Under the hood is where the XC40 sees its biggest improvement. It retains the 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder but output is bumped to 197hp and 300Nm of torque. This combines with a new mild hybrid system that harvests energy under braking and powers an electric motor.

Improved Performance and Efficiency

This new system provides a noticeable boost in responsiveness and driving performance. Acceleration is significantly quicker with the added electric torque fill. The engine also feels less strained, benefitting efficiency.

While hard numbers aren’t available, Volvo claims up to 15% improvement in fuel economy. The mild hybrid tech removes the need for drive modes, but performance is now closer to the previous Dynamic setting.

Key Specifications:

  • ARAI Mileage: 12.18 kmpl
  • Fuel Type: Petrol
  • Engine Displacement: 1969 cc
  • Number of Cylinders: 4
  • Max Power: 197 bhp @ rpm
  • Max Torque: 300 Nm @ rpm
  • Seating Capacity: 5
  • Transmission Type: Automatic
  • Boot Space: 452 Litres
  • Body Type: SUV

Familiar Transmission

The 8-speed auto gearbox carries over from the earlier XC40. Unfortunately, it remains a weak point. Shifts aren’t as quick or responsive as expected, especially when pushing the car. Paddle shifters would improve engagement, but they aren’t offered.

Still Room for Improvement

The transmission tuning could still use some tweaking to better match the improved powertrain. However, once up to speed, shifts are smooth and unobtrusive. A new single-push drive selector replaces the fidgety rocker switch, a very welcome change.

Ride and Handling

In terms of dynamics, the XC40 follows the relaxed Volvo ethos rather than an all-out performance. Its comfortable low-speed ride suffers from some firmness over broken tarmac. But composure and stability at highway speeds are excellent.

Composed at High Speeds

This crossover remains surefooted and planted even at triple-digit speeds thanks to its rigid chassis and firm suspension tuning. You get complete confidence to maintain higher cruising speeds effortlessly.

Could Use More Engagement

Don’t expect much driving enjoyment though – the steering feel is numb despite selectable weight modes. Minimal body roll but modest grip leaves little opportunity for enthusiastic corner carving. Volvo clearly prioritized comfort over sportiness.

Interior and Features

Inside, the XC40 carries forward its trademark minimalist Scandinavian design. High-grade materials provide a truly premium ambiance.

Key Features:

  • Multi-function Steering Wheel
  • Power Adjustable Exterior Rear View Mirror
  • Touch Screen
  • Automatic Climate Control (2 Zone)
  • Engine Start Stop Button
  • Anti Lock Braking System (ABS)
  • Alloy Wheels
  • Power Windows (Rear & Front)
  • Passenger Airbag
  • Driver Airbag
  • Power Steering
  • Air Conditioner

Minimalist Scandinavian Design

The clean, uncluttered dash retains its 9-inch touchscreen and vertical orientation. New details include a revised UI, standard Google navigation, and Apple CarPlay, plus a crystal shift knob. HVAC controls stay on-screen.

New Touchscreen and Digital Cluster

The updated touchscreen looks slick and works well, aided by improved voice controls. The digital instrument panel is also refreshed. Combined with the panoramic sunroof and Harman Kardon audio, the tech works great.

Premium Materials Throughout

From the soft Nappa leather seats to the real wood inlays, every touchpoint confirms the XC40’s luxury positioning. Details like the metallic AC vents add to the upscale environment. The all-black interior looks smart while an optional beige upholstery provides contrast.

Comfortable Seats

The wonderfully supportive front seats coddle occupants in true Volvo fashion. All-day driving comfort is easily achieved thanks to ample cushioning and adjustable lumbar. Heating functions provide added relief from cold weather.

Practicality Compromised in Rear

Sadly, the rear seats fail to match the same comfort, with their overly upright backrests. Legroom and headroom are generous, but long journeys back there remain tiresome. Cargo space is also limited at 460 liters.

Worthy Luxury SUV Choice

The 2023 Volvo XC40 B4 takes an already competent premium crossover and adds a welcome dose of added performance and efficiency. Despite a few lingering drawbacks like the transmission tuning, it remains one of the strongest picks in the entry-luxury SUV space.

Refined road manners, a smartly designed cabin with top-notch materials, and Volvo’s impeccable safety credentials make the XC40 B4 a compelling choice for aspirational buyers. Its subtle styling provides an upscale but understated look.

If you’re considering stepping up to a premium badge, the Volvo XC40 deserves a spot at the top of your list.

What are the key updates on the 2023 XC40 B4?

The big changes are a mild hybrid powertrain bringing improved performance and efficiency, visual exterior tweaks, an updated touchscreen and digital cluster, and premium cabin materials.

How is the ride quality and handling?

The ride leans more towards comfort than sportiness. It’s composed at highway speeds but could use better low-speed compliance. Handling lacks engagement but remains safe and predictable.

Is the interior space and practicality good?

Front space is ample and rear legroom decent, but back seat comfort is lacking. The cargo room is modest at 460 liters. Best treated as a 4-seater.

What features and tech does it get?

Highlights include navigation, Apple CarPlay, panoramic sunroof, Harmon Kardon audio, wireless charging, auto parking, and a full suite of active safety systems.

Should I consider buying the 2023 Volvo XC40 B4?

If you want a refined, safe premium crossover with subtle styling and a well-appointed cabin, the XC40 B4 is highly recommended. An excellent entry point to the luxury segment.

While the engine performs adequately in urban environments, it may exhibit signs of strain during highway travel and uphill climbs. The incorporation of a ladder-frame chassis and rigid axles equips the Jimny for off-road expeditions. Albeit with the trade-off of a stiffer suspension setup affecting ride quality on uneven terrain. Notably, the steering system reveals a noticeable slack at the center position, requiring additional effort during parking maneuvers. Despite these considerations, the Jimny distinguishes itself through its lower weight, providing agile handling characteristics when compared to competitors such as the Mahindra Thar.

Hill descent control facilitates controlled descents on steep slopes, while the brake locking differential efficiently distributes torque to the wheel with the greatest grip. From conquering mud and slush to tackling rocks and ruts, the Jimny emerges unscathed, showcasing off-road prowess that far exceeds its weight class.

Pricing and Positioning

The anticipated pricing strategy places the Maruti Suzuki Jimny in direct competition with counterparts like the Mahindra Thar and Force Gurkha. Although positioned as a lifestyle vehicle rather than a value-focused off-roader, the Jimny’s appeal remains undeniable. Despite disqualifying it from sub-4m excise duty benefits due to its engine displacement, the Jimny is likely to captivate a significant share of the Indian market. As anticipation builds for the official pricing announcement, the Jimny’s cult following and impressive off-road capabilities are poised to resonate with adventure enthusiasts.

In summary, the Maruti Suzuki Jimny successfully captures the essence of the iconic original Maruti Suzuki Gypsy. While incorporating modern safety features and enhanced sophistication. Mahindra XUV300

The Mahindra XUV300 Turbosport – A Powerful yet Polarizing Compact SUV

The Indian automotive market has seen rapid growth and evolution in recent years. With increasing disposposable incomes, buyers are demanding more premium features, better performance, and contemporary styling. This has led automakers to up their game and launch exciting new products across segments. One such offering is the Mahindra XUV300 Turbosport, which aims to inject some excitement into the compact SUV space.

An Overview of the Compact SUV Segment in India

The compact SUV segment has exploded in popularity over the last 5 years. Buyers are drawn to the tall seating position, commanding road view, and go-anywhere capability these vehicles offer. Top sellers like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, and Tata Nexon have set high benchmarks for features, comfort, and safety.

With cut-throat competition, automakers are pushing boundaries to differentiate their offerings. More powerful turbo-petrol engines, new gearbox options, and contemporary styling keep things exciting for buyers. However, with the push towards electrification gathering steam globally, the future of combustion engine compact SUVs seems uncertain.

The XUV300 Turbosport – Mahindra’s Power Play in a Challenging Segment

The Mahindra XUV300 Turbosport is the Indian automaker’s attempt to inject some old-school driving fun in this rapidly evolving space. Launched in early 2022, it is the most powerful petrol compact SUV in India currently.

Engine, Transmission, and Performance

The XUV300 Turbosport derives motivation from a 1.2L 3-cylinder turbo-petrol motor (dubbed mStallion) which delivers 130 hp and 230 Nm torque. This already peppy motor is further tweaked with:

  • A larger turbocharger
  • Variable valve timing
  • High-pressure direct injection

It also comes with an ‘overboost’ function which temporarily bumps up torque to 250 Nm under hard acceleration between 1750-3500 rpm in 2nd to 6th gears.

The 0-100 kmph sprint is dispatched in 10.9 seconds making it very quick in the segment. Power delivery is strong and linear with a muscular mid-range punch. The engine refinement is also impressive for a 3-cylinder with minimal vibes entering the cabin.

Purists will appreciate the 6-speed manual gearbox which features slick and precise throws. However, the clutch pedal travel is on the heavier side which can get tiresome in traffic.

Fuel Efficiency

Despite the performance boost, Mahindra has managed to eke out an ARAI certified 18.2 kmpl from the motor. This is 1.2 kmpl more than the regular XUV300 petrol. Real-world figures remain to be tested thoroughly.

Handling and Dynamics

In terms of dynamics, the XUV300 features a nicely weighted and responsive steering. It handles curves with confidence inspiring poise. However, it doesn’t match segment benchmarks like the Kia Seltos for consisteny and feedback from the helm.

Ride quality is reasonably pliant at low speeds but gets slightly firm at highway cruising velocities. High speed stability is impressive nonetheless. For keen drivers, the Turbosport offers slightly stiffer suspension tuning.

Styling – Subtle Updates Only

Visually differentiating the Turbosport from regular XUV300s is a challenge. Exterior changes are limited to a new paint scheme and red accents around the grille. Interiors feature an all-black theme with metal pedals.

But otherwise, the cabin design and features remain unchanged from the standard car. The XUV300’s interior was already feeling dated and an extensive update is needed to meet contemporary standards. The lack of rear AC vents is a glaring omission too.

Pricing – A Hard Pill to Swallow?

Herein lies the XUV300 Turbosport’s Achilles heel. It is priced from Rs. 10.35 lakh to Rs. 11.84 lakh ex-showroom. This makes it the most expensive compact SUV in India currently.

The interior quality, features, and petite boot size make this hard to justify against rivals like Creta, Seltos, and Nexon which offer more value. Enthusiasts might still bite the bullet for the Turbosport’s enticing performance. But most buyers would be better served by the competition.

The Road Ahead

The XUV300 Turbosport highlights Mahindra’s engineering prowess but reaches showrooms at an inopportune time. With sedans and hatchbacks fading out, SUVs are entering a consolidation phase where value and fuel efficiency hold more importance.

Plus, the looming EV revolution poses an existential threat to combustion engine offerings. As a halo product for driving purists, the XUV300 Turbosport tugs at the heartstrings. But Mahindra needs a comprehensive makeover for the XUV300 range to make it a wholesome package.

Only time will tell if this power-packed compact SUV can find its rightful place in the market.

The Mahindra XUV300 Turbosport is a commendable effort to deliver an engaging driving experience in an increasingly utilitarian compact SUV segment. Its peppy turbo-petrol engine and manual gearbox will evoke smiles on twisty roads. Ride and handling balance is quite likeable too.

However, niggles like the heavy clutch, firm ride, and lack of equipment let it down against more rounded rivals. Plus, its steep pricing may deter all but the most enthusiastic buyers. As a halo product, the XUV300 Turbosport shows that Mahindra can build a fun-to-drive compact SUV.

But the recipe needs fine-tuning for it to succeed in this intensely competitive space. An extensive refresh with more features, improved packaging, and aggressive pricing could make the XUV300 range a force to reckon with.

Kia Seltos

The 2023 Kia Seltos Facelift India’s Hot Midsize SUV Segment

The midsize SUV segment in India has seen tremendous growth over the last few years. With so many options available, standing out from the competition requires automakers to constantly update and improve their offerings. Kia seems to have cracked the code with their 2023 Seltos facelift. While retaining the core strengths that made it a segment leader, the updates move the goalpost even higher for rivals like the Hyundai Creta.

Subtle Exterior Changes Add Premium Flair

Kia hasn’t completely reinvented the wheel with the 2023 Seltos. This is a facelift after all, not a ground-up redesign. But the styling changes, while evolutionary, make the Seltos look more upscale and premium:

Bolder Grille and Lighting Elements

  • The trademark Kia grille is now larger with a more aggressive “tiger nose” design. The LED daytime running lamps (DRLs) extend into the grille for a cohesive look.
  • Full LED tail lamps mirror the latest Kia global design language. They connect in the middle via an illuminated Kia logo.

Sportier Bumpers and Revised Lower Bodywork

  • New front and rear bumpers feature more sculpted lines and body-colored inserts. The rear bumper includes faux exhaust outlets on higher trims.
  • Subtle side sill extensions and trim pieces on the doors freshen up the profile.

Expanded Color Palette

  • New exterior color options have been added, including the eye-catching “pewter olive” seen on the test car. Expect more customization choices to appeal to younger buyers.

The 2023 Seltos continues to stand out in a crowd while looking more sophisticated and expensive. Strong road presence remains a Kia hallmark.

Cabin Sees Major Technology and Design Upgrades

But it’s the interior where Kia has made the biggest strides with the 2023 Seltos. The earlier dual-screen layout resulted in a cluttered dashboard. No more! Kia designers have totally transformed the cabin to look clean, modern, and minimalist.

Streamlined Center Console and Digital Displays

  • The busy center console has made way for a slimmer dual-display layout. A standard 8-inch touchscreen handles infotainment duties while a neighboring 10.25-inch all-digital cluster displays gauges and driving data.

Improved Ergonomics and Material Quality

  • Physical HVAC controls remain for easy access. Buttons and switchgear feel more premium. Soft-touch fabrics line the doors and dashboard.
  • The less obstructed dash not only looks better but also improves forward visibility – a boon for shorter drivers.

The tech-forward interior punches above its weight and finally matches the exterior styling and appeal. Keeping commonly used functions like climate control separate from the touchscreen also scores practicality points.

New 160 HP Turbo-Petrol Headlines Powertrain Updates

Kia is offering the Seltos with 3 engine options: 1.5L petrol, 1.5L diesel, and an all-new 1.5L turbo-petrol motor. This new turbocharged gasoline mill is the big news. With segment-leading power and torque figures, it adds some excitement to the driving experience.

Strong Acceleration and Overtaking Ability

  • 160hp and 253Nm from the new turbo-petrol help the Seltos sprint energetically to 100 kph in under 9 seconds per Kia. There’s always power on reserve for overtaking slower traffic.

Advanced Dual-Clutch Automatic Transmission

  • The 7-speed dual-clutch automatic responds quickly when driving in Sport mode. Gear changes are lightning quick to keep the engine on the boil. It’s not as refined in stop-go traffic though.

grumbly Sounding Engine at Higher RPMs

  • The new turbo engine lacks the silky smooth character of some rivals when pushed hard. It gets rather vocal and grumbly near the redline. But for regular driving, it’s perfectly fine.

So while not the most electrifying or melodious powertrain, the new turbo-petrol gives the Seltos an extra dose of performance to build driving enthusiasm. It’s a welcome addition over the base engines.

Ride Quality and Handling Balance Improved

Kia’s engineering team hasn’t just focused on cosmetic changes. The 2023 Seltos gets chassis tuning updates to build on its reputation as a comfortable daily driver while adding more dynamic verve:

Better High-Speed Stability over Bumps

  • Revisions to the suspension, especially for the rear, allow the Seltos to better isolate passengers from nasty expansion joints and road imperfections encountered on the highway.

Confident Handling without Being Too Firm

  • Front suspension tweaks provide more precision to the steering for confident high-speed maneuvers. But the ride isn’t overly stiffened, ensuring compliance over potholes.

Holds Its Own Against Sportier Small SUVs

  • While no hot hatch, the Seltos facelift handles winding roads with poise. Enthusiasts will still gravitate towards the Hyundai Creta N-Line or Skoda Kushaq Monte Carlo for their sharper responses.

The chassis refinements make the Seltos feel more planted and engaging. And by retaining a supple ride, Kia caters to the majority of buyers who value comfort. It’s a delicate balance executed well.

Top-Spec Models Packed with Features

Kia is offering the 2023 Seltos in quite a few trims and packages. But it’s the fully-loaded variants like the GT Line that really impress with their extensive amenities:

New Equipment Not Found on Older Models

  • Ventilated front seats, wireless phone charging, auto-folding ORVMs, ambient lighting, and remote start are newly available. A large panoramic sunroof further enhances the airy cabin.

Cutting-Edge ADAS Technology

  • Advanced driver aids like forward collision warning, blind spot monitoring, lane keep assist, and rear cross-traffic alert take safety to new heights. These help mitigate common accident causes.

Perks like Smart Key and Push Button Start

  • Keyless entry with push button start adds convenience, as does the auto-dimming rearview mirror. Rain-sensing wipers provide visibility in inclement weather.

Dual-zone automatic climate control, LED interior lighting, and a premium Sound System covers all the bases expected from a well-equipped urban SUV. The Seltos aims to be the benchmark for features.

Kia Seltos

Prices Remain Competitive Despite Additions

The base Seltos now starts at Rs. 10.89 lakhs, very similar to before. Yes, the range-topping turbo-petrol GT Line has crossed into premium territory at about Rs. 19.79 lakhs. But considering the substantial upgrades Kia has packed in, the pricing seems reasonable.

For the added power, sharper handling, and abundance of feel-good features, the 2023 Seltos justifies its marginal price increase in the context of rising input costs. It maintains value, something Kians expect from the brand.

In our price-sensitive market, providing more for less always works. The Seltos first lured buyers with its value positioning. The facelift retains that advantage despite meaningful improvements.

Conclusion: Raising the Bar Yet Again for Midsize SUVs

When it arrived in 2019, the Kia Seltos transformed buyer expectations from the midsize SUV segment. Its head-turning design, premium vibes, and generous equipment forced rivals to up their game. With the 2023 Seltos, Kia has repeated that formula.

It’s still instantly recognizable on the outside but with added finesse and road presence. The interior’s radical makeover results in a cabin that feels special and expensive. Add the potent new turbo engine, refined road manners, and abundance of tech – the Seltos seems fresh rather than just facelifted.

Kia has tailored the 2.0 version of its first India-centric model to appeal to both the head and heart. It addresses the few shortcomings of the original while packaging the upgrades smartly. Whether on a crowded city street or an open highway, the Seltos continues to feel sophisticated and satisfying.

The midsize SUV space keeps evolving rapidly. But with this comprehensive facelift, Kia seems ready to defend the Seltos’ position as the segment benchmark. For an optimal blend of style, comfort, features, and driving pleasure, the 2023 Kia Seltos is hard to beat. It sets a new standard for automakers to aspire towards.

The Tata Nexon scored a full five stars in crash tests conducted by Global NCAP, making it the safest Indian car. It comes equipped with two airbags, ABS, EBD, corner stability control, and ISOFIX child seat anchors as standard across the range.

Higher variants also feature an electronic stability program, roll-over mitigation, hill hold control, and hill descent control. There are 3D maps by MapmyIndia that utilize the in-dash touchscreen. Other hi-tech features include a fully digital instrument cluster and wearable smart key.

Variants and prices

The Tata Nexon is available in four broad trim levels – XE, XM, XT, and XZ+. There is a further distinction between manual and AMT variants.

The petrol Nexon is priced between Rs. 7.54 – 12.79 lakh while the diesel ranges from Rs. 8.69 – 14.60 lakh (ex-showroom). XE and XM are the affordable variants focused on value, XT is the mid-spec variant and XZ+ is the fully-loaded top model. There are a total of 20 variants to choose from to suit diverse budgets.

Exterior design and styling

The Tata Nexon features a bold and muscular exterior design that sets it apart from other compact SUVs. It has a wide stance with flared wheel arches and a clamshell bonnet that give it an athletic look.

The front is highlighted by the Tata signature grille, sleek headlamps, and LED daytime running lights. The side profile gets a contrasting color roof, heavy creases, and 16-inch wheels. Split tail lamps with LED light guides dominate the rear.

With its coupe-like sloping roofline, raised ground clearance of 209mm, and squared-off wheel arches, the Nexon has a very distinct road presence. The electric sunroof and dual-tone color options further enhance its style quotient.

The steering wheel can be adjusted for rake and equipped with controls for audio, phone, and MID. Automatic climate control works well to cool the cabin quickly. Front seats have extendable armrests while rear seats get 60:40 split and slide function.

350 liters of boot space can be extended to 690 liters by folding the rear seats. The electric sunroof makes the cabin feel roomy and airy. Multiple storage spaces, rear AC vents, keyless entry, and cruise control add further convenience.

Performance and handling

The Tata Nexon offers an enjoyable driving experience thanks to its well-tuned suspension, steering, and engines. The petrol motor has good low-end grunt while the diesel impresses with its strong mid-range punch and minimal turbo lag.

Both engines feel responsive and deliver smooth linear power delivery. The AMT gearbox may have some jerks during aggressive throttle inputs but works well for relaxed driving. The steering feels direct and weighs up nicely at high speeds. Ride quality manages to strike a fine balance between comfort and stability.

The Nexon tackles broken roads and undulations competently. It handles winding roads confidently with minimal body roll. High-speed stability is also impressive considering its height.

Fuel efficiency

Fuel efficiency is one of the high points of the Nexon. The petrol manual delivers 17-18 kmpl in city usage while the AMT version returns 16-17 kmpl. On highway runs, the petrol Nexon gives 19-21 kmpl mileage.

The Diesel Nexon with manual transmission gives 19-21 kmpl mileage in city driving conditions. Out on the highways, the diesel engine can deliver up to 23 kmpl. With so much performance on tap, the fuel efficiency of both petrol and diesel Nexons is quite outstanding.

Awards and accolades

The Tata Nexon has received wide critical acclaim winning many prestigious automotive awards. It received the 2017 Indian Car of the Year Award from a jury of auto journalists.

Other notable awards won by the Nexon include sub-compact SUV of the Year from BBC Top Gear, Viewer’s Choice SUV of the Year at Autocar Awards 2018, and Compact SUV of the Year at Vijay Awards 2018.

Global NCAP gave the Nexon a 5-star rating making it the safest car made in India. Its popularity and success highlight the global safety and quality standards met by Tata Motors.

Sales performance and popularity

The Nexon has been a runaway success for Tata Motors since its launch. It has consistently ranked among the top 10 best-selling SUVs with monthly sales crossing the 4,000 unit mark.

In 2022, Tata sold over 48,000 units of the Nexon recording 22% growth over 2021. Its sales performance has exceeded the established Vitara Brezza, Venue, and Sonet in recent times.

The combination of style, safety, performance, features, and value pricing has struck a chord with buyers making the Nexon among the most popular compact SUVs in India.

Competitors and comparison

The Tata Nexon competes with similar compact SUVs like Maruti Vitara Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Ford EcoSport, Mahindra XUV300, Renault Kiger, and Nissan Magnite. The Brezza and Venue hold the maximum market share in this segment.

Compared to rivals, the Nexon has the advantage of being the safest with a 5-star GNCAP rating, feature-loaded equipment, a powerful diesel engine, and attractive pricing. While some competitors score on high fuel efficiency, Tata has mostly matched them while offering a superior overall package.

The Nexon evens out or surpasses its competition on most factors establishing itself as one of the strongest contenders in the compact SUV space.

Future plans and outlook

Going forward Tata Motors plans to launch a turbo-petrol variant, an automatic transmission option for diesel, and an extended warranty of up to 5 years on the Nexon. An electric Nexon EV is also slated for launch in 2023.

Tata will continue enhancing the technology and connected features. More variant and color options are expected to attract young buyers. The company aims to grow Nexon’s sales to 60,000 units in 2023 by entering new markets internationally.

The Tata Nexon has been nothing short of a game-changer for Tata Motors. It has given the Indian automaker a credible challenger to take on segment leaders like Maruti Brezza and Hyundai Venue.

Honda WRV Review 2022 – First Drive

2022 Honda WRV Facelift Overview

It’s all too easy to get cynical about the Honda WRV. You might look at it and go, well, that’s a jacked-up Honda Jazz. With some off-road bits added to it, and strictly speaking, you wouldn’t be wrong. Honda doesn’t have a sub-4 meter SUV, and to fill that gap in the range. They’ve got this crossover.

You should not be cynical about the Honda WRV. Because ever since it was launched in 2017. It has sold in pretty good numbers. And that’s because people see it for what it is—a compact spacious, practical crossover with a Honda badge on its nose.

Exterior – Honda WRV 2022

Let’s have a look at the exterior of the Honda WRV facelift. There is a bolder look on the face. Whereas before, the chrome band on the grille extended wide and joined the headlamps at their base. But the headlamps are now off the LED projector variety with a lot of detailing inside the large units.

The grills beneath the chrome bar have more prominent horizontal slats giving the impression of being larger. And the fog lamps, which are now also LED-powered. And features thicker black surrounds at the rear, not much has changed at all. You’ll find a new design for the 16-inch alloy wheels. But only on the diesel version.

And re-profile tail lamps that sit in blacked-out frames and feature LED lighting. But what do you think of the Honda WRV facelift? Do you think it looks sharper than the previous version? And would you pick this tren hex 75 mg in vendita in italia crossover body style over the more conventional boxy stunts of the other sub-4 meter SUVs?

Interior – Honda WRV

In the back seat,

honda wrv brochure page 004

Where once again, things are much the same. The Honda WRV might not have the boxy proportions of conventional sub-4-meter SUVs. Thanks to Honda’s legendary interior packaging skills. There’s still loads of space inside the cabin.

Have enough amount of knee room and even headroom. Again not quite as good as a boxy sub-4-meter SUV. The seat itself is pretty comfortable with good cushioning. But there are a few things I miss back here.

  • Rear AC vents,
  • No charging facilities back here,
  • There’s no center armrest,
  • And headrests are not adjustable and are set very low.

WRV Boot Space

honda wrv brochure page 008

And space extends to the boot. The boot is at 363 liters is more than what you get in any other current compact SUV. And though the back seat doesn’t split, you can fold it down for more luggage room.

Engine Specs – Honda WRV

Honda WRV Drive Petrol

honda wrv brochure page 006

The characteristic of this 1.2-liter petrol engine WRV shares, with its larger 1.5-liter sibling that you’ll find in the Honda City. That is why it loves to rev. It is something we’ve loved about iVTEC and iDTEC engines right from the very first Honda City.

It is almost a shame that the rev counter on this car is so tiny. The needle jumps so fast. Put your foot down, and it races across, all the way to a limiter at 6500 RPM.

While all those revs might feel quite exciting, it does not quite translate to numbers 0-100 kph that come up in 15.1 seconds. That is almost a whole second slower than the BS4 version. The thing is, while that is a lot of fun for most people in everyday driving.

In Traffic

Don’t go chasing after the red line in traffic and the city. You tend to want to keep it in one gear and pootle along. So how does this engine handle that? Well, another characteristic of iVTEC engines is a good amount of pep at low revs and a slightly flat mid-range. And yes, that very exciting top end and all that is characteristic of this engine too.

The trouble is you have to make sure you stay out of that flat mid-range. And that means at path throttle, say when you’re in third gear in traffic, and you want to get a move on you, do find yourself having to shift down a lot.

The short-throw gear lever makes doing that fun. But you miss the effortlessness you get from other engines in this class. And even when you do downshift, things are not always all smooth.

In the transition to BS6, it seems to have lost some of that lovely low-end pep you used to get. And that’s a shame because you need that when you’re setting off from a set of traffic lights.

Ride and Handlings

It’s not all bad news, though, because, compared to most compact SUVs, the WRV has one distinct advantage. What enthusiasts will also love about the WRV is that it is a fun handler.

You see, unlike its direct rifles, which are sub-4-meter SUVs, it hasn’t committed to a tall, boxy body style. And thus, it has a lower center of gravity, which only means more fun in the corners. Plus, the bigger wheels and wider tires. Give you more confidence than you’d get in its hatchback sibling, the Jazz.

The only thing I would like was a little bit more weight from this steering at speed. It doesn’t quite weigh up nicely enough as you go faster. But it remains sharp and direct so, lean into a corner.

Ride quality is top-notch. They have nailed a good blend of bump absorption and softness with this car. The Honda Jazz hatchback will be petrol only in BS6 due to the low demand for the diesel variant.

The WRV does sell well in diesel. So they’ve upgraded the 1.5 iDTEC engine to meet the new emissions norms.

Honda WRV Drive Diesel

In the diesel variant, things are as you would expect. It’s the same 1.5-liter iDTEC diesel engine as before with 100 horsepower and 200 newton meters of torque. So the output numbers have not changed but have the driving experience.

delivering 73 kW (100 ps)@ 3 600 rpm
with 23.7 km/l.
Low-friction aluminum construction.
Available in 6-speed MT model

The first thing that catches your attention right out of the door is the noise that this engine makes. Now, there has been a slight improvement compared to the BS4 version. But, you will still hear quite a bit of clutter at idle. And there is a constant drone that you hear as speed climbs up.

Once you get used to the noise, this is an excellent engine. When it comes to the way, it drives:-

  • It is responsive right from the moment you touch the accelerator pedal.
  • And it continues to pull to the red line.
  • It is not a particularly explosive or exciting engine but, it is very predictable and very linear.
  • And because it is so tractable at all revs.
  • You very rarely feel the need to change gears, even in traffic. So the opposite of the petrol engine then.

Performance-wise the BS6 WRV diesel does 0-100 kph in 13.03 seconds. That is 0.38 seconds slower than the BS4 diesel car. And the difference only grows wider when you consider the in-gear acceleration. And that is not the only number that is not as good as before.

Honda WRV Mileage

Honda WRV diesel mileage, the ARAI rating for this diesel car is 23.7 kmpl but, that is down by 1.8 kmpl compared to the BS4 car. It is because Honda has used the lean NOx trap method to make this engine BS6 compliant. This process requires a periodic injection of the rich fuel mixture. To neutralize the pollutants trapped in the filter.

The petrol Honda WRV has an ARAI-rated fuel efficiency is 16.5 kmpl, which is 1 KMPL lower than the BS4 version.

As facelifts go then, the Honda WRVs are as minor as they get sure of the new face. And the headlight accents do make it look a bit bolder but, apart from that, not much else has changed.

I do not only mean the way it looks, even on the inside, I wish they had improved things. And maybe add some more equipment, but that has not been done yet.

More than any equipment, though, the one thing this car sorely misses is an automatic gearbox. And nowadays, when people are opting for that transmission. Moreover, it is a missed opportunity with the Honda WRV now priced from 8.5 lakh to 10.99 lakh

This car is a little bit less than its conventional compact SUV rivals –

But then it does not offer quite as much as those cars do either. So the WRV then continues to provide what the WRV did before. And, those are strengths of space, and practicality in a relatively compact package.

With peace of mind, a few fun-to-drive dynamics are thrown in. I, just wish they had taken this opportunity to improve it and make it a more attractive package.

2022 Citroen C3 for India revealed

2022 Citroen C3 Revealed for India – First Look

Introduction Citroen C3

The new Citroen C3 is coming to India in 2022. And it’ll mark the french car makers’ entry to the mass segments. In this article, we’ll talk about the key details revealed so far.

Citroen C3 Design

The C3 is under 4 meters in length and has its crossover cues. But Citroen is not calling it a compact SUV. The French carmaker has described the model as a hatchback with a twist.

One part of the reason is that a more upright compact SUV is in the french car makers India product timeline and will follow the C3.

Best categorized as a cross hatchback. The C3 does have the high bonnet look and elevated seating Indian buyers like. Also, the 180 mm of ground clearance is above the norm for hatchbacks.

Styling would be typical Citroen quirky and cool, even if the split headlamp setup with led DRLs on top. And the main headlight cluster lowerdown. The lights merge into chrome slats at the grill that slickly fuses into the Citroen logo.

There’s an interplay of different colors lower down on the bumper with the aluminum scuff plate. And orange fog lamp surrounds contrasting with the blacked-out air dam and cladding. There’ll also be a customization program for buyers to mix and match colors. In profile, the C3 looks compact and tight. And the creases above the wheel arches add some distinction too.

Citroen C3 Side view

The contrast roof mirrors and cladding embellishment only help to this end. Cladding aside, the C3 also gets roof rails for that crossover look. Things that don’t work well are the outdated lift-type door handles and slim tires.

Citroen C3 rear view

The car pictured here features stylized wheel covers and not proper alloys. However, alloys will be part of the options list. The tail end is upright and is home to stylish wraparound tail lamps with light guides designed to replicate the look at the front DRLs.

The chunky cladding extends to the rear bumper. And the scuff plate is in keeping with that crossover template. Curiously a rear viper is missing from the unveiled car. The final product might get the feature. Boot capacity stands at 315 liters.

Citroen C3 Interior

Citroen’s colorful theme continues on the inside as well. With a bright orange panel running the width of the dashboard. The dimpled effect on the panel is interesting, as are the complex-looking ac vents. A 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system featuring Android auto and apple car play takes center stage on the dash.

There are also nifty clamps to hold your smartphone beside the central and side ac vents in terms of space for smaller items. There are storage bays at the base of the dash bottle holders on each of the doors. And three USB ports, including two at the back, are also included.

Images also reveal a chunky three-spoke steering and a digital instrument cluster. But on the flip side, manually adjusts for the mirrors, manual air-con controls, and single-piece front seats with integrated headrests. Also, tell you there costs have been saved.

Plastic quality is also something we’ll be able to ascertain only when we see the C3 in the metal. Built on a 2.54-meter long wheelbase. The C3, as Citroen puts it, will offer space at par with the best in the segment. Notably, the rear seat bench’s bolstering suggests it’s been designed for two occupants.

Also, while the C3 does provide rear headrests, they aren’t adjustable. Of the other things. There’s no rear center armrest, and a quirk visible in the pics is the position of the rear power window buttons that sit at the center console between the front seats.

Citroen C3 front view

Citroen C3 Engine and Gearboxes

The C3 will be offered in India with a 1.2-liter turbo petrol engine. Expect power to be in the region of 90 horsepower. Before you ask, there won’t be any diesel engine on offer. Transmission options will include a 5-speed manual and a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic.

While no other technical information has been revealed as yet, what’s known is that the c3 is based on group PSA’s CMP modular platform. That’ll also be the base of two more mass models from Citroen. Including the aforementioned compact SUV.

It’s also important to bring in that along with South America, India will be the lead market for the C3. the model will be manufactured at the Tiruvarur plant near Chennai. and impressively will start with over 90 localization levels. Citroen is expected to position the C3 quite aggressively in its segment.

Expected Price and Rivals

Coming to this segment. The C3 will rival models like the Tata Punch and Maruti Suzuki Ignis. And it’s safe to assume prices will be in the 5.5 to 8 lakh rupee bracket when the model goes on sale in the first half of 2022.

Worth mentioning is that in the run-up to the C3s launch Citroen will expand its dealer network in India, which is currently only limited to flagship stores in select cities. So that’s the basic info on the Citroen C3. What do you think of the model? Do let us know in the comment section below.

Audi Q2 Price In India – Review, First Look

Audi Q2 2021 Overview

Here is a car that has been a long time coming, and it is the Audi Q2. And in Europe, it has been around for ages. But, hey, better late than never. It is finally here in India. Promises to offer something truly unique in the luxury car space.

What is it like well, read more to find out? Well, as the name suggests, it is an Audi SUV one size down from a Q3. And if you are thinking, hmm, then what are its traditional rivals, the answer is it does not have any.

Audi Q2 Exterior

It is a small luxury crossover that is 4.2 meters long. It is even shorter than the luxury hatchbacks that used to be, sold here. Like, the Mercedes A-class and the BMW 1 series. The advantage, of course, is that the Audi Q2 offers a higher ground clearance than a crossover. And it certainly is a crossover with a shape and proportions more akin to a high-riding hatchback.

Width (mm)2009
Height (mm)1508
Wheelbase (mm)2595
Boot Space (litre)405
Fuel Tank (litres)55

Then a boxy SUV, and while car designers can often get this sort of shape wrong. Audi has nailed it. It also does not follow the design template of its bigger Q siblings and has a distinct style all of its own.

  • The strong shoulder line,
  • Gently bulging wheel arches,
  • Blacked out c-pillars,
  • And raked rear,
  • Windscreen draw your gaze,

It has a wide rectangular nose with plenty of trapezoidal details. Like, the grille, Headlights, And the lower air dam.

But what do you think about the Audi Q2?
And where it fits in our market, do let us know down in the comments section. And if you have not done so, please do subscribe to the Motosutra by Push-Notification button to stay notified.

Audi Q2 Interior

A big highlight of any Audi is always its interior.

Audi Q2 Interior dashboard

Now, here on the inside is where this car’s edge starts to show. It is a last-generation Audi interior but is that a bad thing. You see, it’s got a clean design, and it’s of very, very high quality.

The design of the dash reminds you of the Audi TT sports car. With its rotary click to shut vents, the soft feel dash, nerd chrome switchgear. And the general fit and finish are right up there with the bigger Audi’s. And you’ve got to love the snakeskin-like dash trim that lights up at night with the Quattro logo.

You also get virtual cockpit digital dials, which are still some of the best in the business. Thanks to their clean, well-thought-out design. However, this one being of an older generation. It isn’t quite as slick or sharp as the newer versions.

Infotainment System

Forget the fancy dual MMI touch screens that you get in the likes of the A6, A8, and Q8. You get a single screen here, and well, it’s not even a touchscreen. You have to use Audi’s old MMI click wheel. That is an easy interface to use. But you don’t get that wow factor that you get from newer Audi’s.

And while we’re here, a quick word on equipment. While the Audi Q2 does get few important goodies like a

  • Large sunroof wireless,
  • Mobile charging
  • And the aforementioned digital dials

There are some things I feel should have been included in the list like, Powered front seats with heating or ventilation.

Back Seat

The Audi Q2 is not a car for the chauffeur-driven. But you would be surprised to find that there is a decent amount of knee room and headroom back here. If you are over six feet tall, then you should be okay.

Things I’m not such a fan of are the fact that this backrest is upright. The seat squab isn’t the longest, and the window is high and small. Which makes you feel a little bit hemmed in. But other than that the seat is quite comfortable.

Another interesting points to note are the fact that there are no AC vents in the back. But then this is not a very big car. And though the USB ports in the front are of the standard variety, the ones back here are USB type C.

The boot is well-shaped and easy to load, and you get a decent 405 liters. That is more than enough for a weekend excursion. And so you don’t get stranded with a puncture. There is also a space-saver spare tire well.

Audi Q2 Engine Specs

You might remember when the Audi A3, Q3, and even the A4 used to get a 1.4-liter turbocharged petrol engine. This one, this smaller car, uses a 2-liter turbocharged petrol engine, no downsizing here.

It seems Audi may have learned its lesson from the last time with 190 horsepower and 320 nm of torque. It’s a familiar engine powering everything from the VW Tiguan all space to the Skoda Superb. But this is stuffed into the Audi Q2 that weighs just 1.4 tons. Well, you’re in for quite a treat.

But before you go racing after the redline, know that this engine is also, really, good in everyday usage. There are that smoothness and refinement that’s typical of a TFSI turbo petrol engine. And the best part is combined with the seven-speed DSG gearbox

It can take on two different characters. Just depending on how aggressively you punch down your right foot. Drive it gently, and it responds in kind, with seamless shifts. And creamy smooth power delivery.

However, in comfort or efficiency modes, the gearbox can get caught out. If you surprise it with a sudden kick down, and it can be reluctant to shift down at times. However, things get a lot more agreeable if you turn up the wick.

It holds revs to the 6500 rpm redline, and it enjoys revving this engine. There is a lot of performance here. In fact, in a preliminary run with our Vbox testing gear, 0-100 kph came up in just 8.08 seconds. And in the proper testing conditions, we have no doubt it would have been quicker.

And that’s helped not only by the fact that this car has a quick-shifting DSG automatic gearbox. But also because it has Quattro all-wheel-drive. Yes, they’ve thrown everything at the Q2 apart from helping you do quicker launches. Quattro also has its benefits in added grip and particularly on loose surfaces like a rural trail.

And should you encounter a rough road?

The suspension has you covered. Now, if you go over a rough patch of road. Yes, you can feel a little bit of that firmness that Europeans set up in the suspension. But because there’s enough ground clearance on this car. You don’t mind driving over potholes and bad patches. It gives you a little bit more peace of mind. Even high-speed stability is very good for such a compact car.

And you get that tough germanic feeling of confidence from behind the wheel. But with all that performance, could it also be a fun handler.

Now yes, we’ve said this many times before, but Audi’s steerings are nothing to write home about. and that’s true here too, but this time at least it’s allied to a very, very good chassis.

The Audi Q2 is compact. The suspension is in European spec. It has not been softened, for India or anything like that. So, there is good body control that means it does not roll much in corners. And you can lean into the suspension in a Bend.

But they will also get an added dose of excitement thanks to the peppy petrol. And relatively lightweight and an agile handler from behind the wheel. Perhaps it could have been better equipped. the interior is showing its age, and some might not like the fact that this is not the facelifted version. That will soon go on sale in Europe. But what you are getting with the Audi Q2 is something truly unique. A new and interesting entry point to the Audi brand that it has no competition.

Do you know what this car feels like?

It feels like a proper hot hatchback, just one that happens to have more ground clearance. it’s got a

  • Nice taut chassis,
  • Decent steering
  • It’s got loads of power
  • And it’s really, really compact

In fact, I’d go as far as saying in the real world on our small bumpy narrow roads. This is the most fun, Audi, to drive.
